Jimmy Garoppolo scored his first rushing touchdown since 2019 and threw for another score Sunday afternoon as the San Francisco 49ers completed a 2-0 trip to the Eastern Time Zone with a 17-11 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

One week after allowing 430 yards and 33 points in a win at Detroit, the 49ers (2-0) limited the Eagles to 328 yards and nothing more than a 45-yard Jake Elliott field goal over the game's first 55 minutes.

Jalen Hurts ran for a game-high 82 yards and a score and threw for 190 yards, but the Eagles (1-1) failed to turn a 94-yard drive into any points in the second quarter and then had a field goal blocked in the third en route to scoring 21 fewer points than they put up in their Week 1 win over Atlanta.

Garoppolo's 1-yard quarterback sneak capped a 16-play, 92-yard drive and gave the 49ers a 14-3 lead with 10:52 remaining in the game.

When Robbie Gould connected on a 46-yard field goal, the margin increased to 17-3 with just 5:12 left.

Hurts then ran 27 yards to set up his own 1-yard TD, and when Kenneth Gainwell ran in a 2-point conversion, suddenly the Eagles were within 17-11 with 4:02 left.

But Garoppolo, running plays the 49ers had been expected to give to rookie backup Trey Lance, plunged for a key first down on third-and-1 with the clock approaching 2:00, and the 49ers held on from there.

Garoppolo finished with 11 carries for 20 yards, which barely missed his career-best of 23 yards against Kansas City in 2018. It was just the third 20-yard rushing game of his career.

Elijah Mitchell led 49ers rushers with 42 yards on 17 carries, while wideout Deebo Samuel was the club's leader in receiving yards gained with 93 on six catches.

The 49ers totaled just 306 yards, but they didn't commit a turnover.

Garoppolo went 22 for 30 through the air for 189 yards. His lone TD pass came from 11 yards out to Jauan Jennings in the second quarter.

Hurts finished 12 for 23 with neither a TD pass nor an interception.

Quez Watkins, who hauled in a 91-yard reception in the second quarter, was the Eagles' top receiver with two catches for 117 yards.
